Funeral services for Rose Lee Jones will be held Tuesday, January 8, 2018, at 11:00 a.m. in the chapel of Stephens Funeral Home with Bro. James Ruffin officiating. Visitation will be held from 10:00 a.m. until service time at the funeral home. Burial will follow at Magnolia Cemetery.
Mrs. Jones, age 95, passed away January 3, 2018, at Diversicare.
After graduating high school in Cullman, Alabama, Rose Lee worked for the United States Civil Service in Gulfport, MS, where she met and married Samuel Beauchamp Thomas Jones, Jr. She and Beauchamp moved to Oxford, MS so he could attend law school. After his graduation, they moved to Greenwood, MS, Indianola, MS, Terry, MS and Hattiesburg, MS, before settling in Meridian. Rose Lee was a member of Poplar Springs Drive Baptist Church for sixty-three years, where she served as church secretary. She also served as church secretary at First Presbyterian Church. Rose Lee was a loving wife and a devoted mother, grandmother and great-grandmother and will be deeply missed by her family and friends.
The Jones family would like to give a heartfelt thanks to Diversicare, Mary Ann McKinney and Bernice Johnson, who provided Rose Lee compassionate care through her various illnesses.
She is survived by her children, Beauchamp Jones and his wife, Rosy, Patricia Jones Simpson and her husband, Barry, and Baxter Jones and his wife, Denise; grandchildren, Patrick Jones and his wife, Johanna, Matthew Jones, Whitney Cairns and her husband, Zac, Stephanie Jakovac and her husband, Ryan, and Travis Simpson and his wife, Alicia, Louis Jones and wife Kristina, Kelty McLaurin and husband Wallace and eleven great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Samuel Beauchamp Thomas Jones, Jr, and three brothers.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made in her honor to American Macular Degeneration Foundation, https://www.macular.org/ or the American Cancer Society at cancer.org.
